Wallander First Case Single Book 9 eBook Henning Mankell Reviews
Interesting look at the commencement of Wallander's detective life. Having just returned from Sweden and visiting Ystaad it is easy to imagine how Mankell has created Wallander's morose type of character as the area does seem to be a little bleak and would be more so in the winter months. Luck and gut feeling comes to play a great deal in his solving of cases.
It shows what Wallander would gradually become.
I have loved every single book by Mankell that I've read, whether from the Wallander series or not.
Without doubt, one of my favourite writers!
What you could call an 'origins story'. This short read positions Wallander in Malmo as a junior cop. His relationships with the Force, with his Dad, and with the long suffering Mona are all their to see.
Interesting to see Wallander as a young cop just starting out on his career.. He is inexperienced but already shows his traits of curiosity and persistence. which help him solve the case. A great little mystery.
I have enjoyed it very much. Since I knew the character from the Sweedish and English television series and this was my first aquaintance with the author's original version, I had some doubts, but it was very good. Now I'll be looking for other books by Mankell in version.
Obviously translated from the original Swedish, but still a great read. Looking forward to reading more of the Wallander books...
Glad I read this one first, even though it was written partway through the series. I decided not to describe the mood as 'dark' though it is a little.
Love Wallander as a character and Mankell's writing is intelligent and gripping. There is nothing stilted in the translation either so its a great book in a great series!
